                     Wescove Teachers, Staff and students are collectively committed to adhering to our mission and school expectations.

Mission Statement:

The mission of Wescove Elementary School is to provide a safe and supportive environment that fosters high levels of learning for our diverse learning community. 

Teachers and Staff Promise

We promise to provide all students with meaningful learning experiences, help each student to learn and become successful, and create a positive and safe learning environment in which all students can participate in the learning process and grow to become successful individuals.

Student Expectations and Responsibilities:

Wescove students will treat students, teachers, and staff in a respectful way, come to school ready to learn, respect others’ property, and be safe.

Social Contract and Implementation:

Each classroom will create its own "social contract" where students and teachers create and document the rules and expectations of the class. This social contract is visible to all students and used to promote social responsibility and positive classroom behavior. The social contract encourages students and teachers to respect one another, be kind, and work safely.

Wescove Elementary Classroom Rules:

(These are embedded in the classroom social contract too.)

  2. Follow directions the first time they are given
  3. Use school materials and equipment properly
  4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
  5. Use kind words and appropriate language

Positive Rewards:

  • Verbal praise and affirmations from peers and staff
  • Positive communication home
  • Individual or classroom incentives
  • Wallaby tickets acknowledging positive behavior and choices
  • Awards

Consequences:

  • Verbal warning
  • "Pink" tickets at recess
  • Individual conference with the student
  • Loss of a privilege
  • Parent Meeting
  • Behavior contract

Arriving at School:

Wescove students will... 

  • Arrive to school no earlier than 7:45 a.m. unless eating breakfast in the cafeteria (if eating breakfast at school - the cafeteria opens at 7:30a.m.)
  • Wait in the cafeteria and blue patio table area until supervisors instruct you to line up
  • Line up at the designated place at 7:55

Bus Safety

Wescove students who ride the bus to and from school will submit a bus application and adhere to the following guidelines... 

  • Obey all bus rules and behave respectfully while on the bus
  • Wal to and from the bus and wait patiently in line and take turns loading the bus
  • Be helpful and courteous to younger students riding the bus
  • Report misconduct to the bus driver

On the Playground

Wescove students will... 

  • Walk to and from the playground, use equipment safely, and run only on grass areas
  • Use appropriate language
  • Stay in assigned playground areas
  • Follow the rules of the game and not exclude others from playing
  • Use the play equipment as they are intended (go down a slide, jump ropes are for jumping, etc.)
  • Respect one another by keeping hands to yourself (no play fighting, pushing, kicking, or wrestling)
  • Follow directions of all adults the first time they are given
  • Treat everyone with respect

In the Restroom

Wescove students will... 

  • Use restrooms for appropriate purposes only
  • Not play in the restroom and respect others' privacy
  • Always put paper towels in the trash cans and keep restrooms clean

Dismissal Time

1:58 p.m. dismissal for grades TK/Kindergarten; 12:58 p.m. early dismissal (Wednesday)

2:08 p.m. dismissal for grade 1 and 2; 1:08 p.m. early dismissal (Wednesday)

Wescove students will... 

  • Wait to be dismissed by the teacher and then walk to their destination
  • Leave school grounds promptly if riding the bus
  • Walk directly to the designated location if they attend Y-Ases after school
  • Wait attentively for their ride from the parent/guardian
  • Sit respectfully/quietly in the main office and wait for late pick-up
