Principal's Message

A Message from Principal Jaramillo:

Dear Wescove Wallaby Families-

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I write this letter to you as the principal of Wescove Elementary School.  I am truly honored to be a part of this school community and to work in partnership with you to provide a safe, welcoming school environment and an academically excellent learning program for our students.

Wescove Elementary, "Home of the Wallabies", is one of 8 elementary schools serving the community of West Covina within West Covina Unified School District. Wescove is a unique campus delivering instruction and support to students in grades TK-2 and pre-kindergarten/preschool students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Wescove is home to approximately 220 students in grades TK through second grade and an additional 80 preschool students receiving specialized services. Wescove Elementary School is a relatively small school comparatively. This we find to be a benefit allowing a strong sense of community and collaboration between home and school. The combined efforts of the school faculty and school support staff in partnership with our families enable us to facilitate a safe and welcoming school environment and an academically excellent learning program for all students.

Wescove prides itself in providing high-yield instructional strategies and programs to foster student academic achievement and emotional and social development. Its combination of approaches and opportunities contributes to student success in preschool and beyond. Wescove teachers in all grades see the value of reinforcing student effort, providing timely feedback, assigning appropriate practice in class and at home, and facilitating cooperative learning opportunities.

Students at Wescove have many opportunities to be acknowledged for their effort. In both our general education and special education classes, students can earn Wallaby tickets and participate in our "Capturing Kids Hearts" daily affirmation activities. For students who need more frequent reinforcement, token systems and other behavioral tools are utilized. We know that practice lends to mastery, automaticity, and proficiency. Students in all grades have access to their own district-provided devices. These devices are used to improve student engagement and access. Wescove students utilize their devices to access programs such as Unique Learning Systems, iReady math and reading (grades K-2), Reflex Math, and Seesaw activities assigned by the classroom teacher to reinforce core concepts.

Wescove's unique methods, positive school culture, dedicated staff, and strong PTA support help to make Wescove a school of excellence.

As the site administrator, I am fully committed to supporting our Wescove Community and aim to maintain a strong, collaborative relationship with our students and families. Ongoing and timely communication is essential. Please continue to check our school website and social media accounts for the latest information. If you haven’t downloaded the Parent Square app, we encourage you to do so.  Weekly communication from the principal, posts from classroom teachers, and other important information and reminders are sent through Parent Square. I am sure you will find this app to be a great tool for two-way communication between home and school!

And, as always, our office personnel are available by phone and email to address any questions or concerns you may have.  We can be reached at (626) 938-4870.

We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to serve you and your family.

Respectfully,
